Learn Waste Management
In home composting organic wastes i.e. remains of plants and kitchen waste, are bio-degraded and converted into nutrient rich food for your plants. Composting is carried out by allowing organic materials to sit in one place for months until microbes decompose it. Composting is one of the best method of waste disposal, as it can turn waste into useful product i.e., compost.
Around 40 - 50% of the domestic waste stream is organic matter. Conventionally most of this waste goes into the landfill. Composting can play a significant role in diverting organic waste from landfills thereby conserving landfill space and arresting leachate and methane gas production. Home composting comes in two kinds:
- bin/pile composting
- vermi or worm composting
At household level, Bin/pile composting is easier, as one does not have to be too careful with what to put into it.
